1st High Energy Astrophysics Observatory ( HEAO 1. GSFC. NASA )
The first of NASA's three High Energy Astronomy Observatories, HEAO 1 was launched aboard an Atlas Centaur rocket on 12 August 1977 and operated until 9 January 1979. During that time, it scanned the X-ray sky almost three times over 0.2 keV - 10 MeV, provided nearly constant monitoring of X-ray sources near the ecliptic poles, as well as more detailed studies of a number of objects through pointed observations.
2nd High Energy Astrophysics Observatory ( HEAO 2, renamed Einstein. GSFC. NASA )
The second High Energy Astronomy Observatory (HEAO-B) was launched into an approximate 100-min low Earth orbit on 13 November 1978. Renamed the Einstein Observatory, it operated (with one significant interruption) until April 1981 and made over 5,000 targeted observations.
ADS Einstein Archive Service ( Einstein )
This service provides query and retrieval capability for the Einstein X-ray Observatory's processed data archive. The archive includes about 5000 X-ray observations (in astronomical standard FITS format) taken between 1978 and 1981.
Advanced Stars: a Tool for Relating Informations and Data ( ASTRID )
ASTRID is a data base of stars in an advanced evolutionary stage, peculiarly of red giants, AGB and post-AGB variables. The database gathers in the same tool observational data with comments and results from models.
It is developed at GRAAL (Montpellier, France).

ASCA Data Facility
The ASCA Data Facility, part of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Astrophysics Data Facility , is responsible for processing low level ASCA data into standard formatted products, distributing ASCA data to American and European Primary (PI) and Guest (GI) investigators, and populating the final ASCA public data archive.

Astro Space Center ( ASC )
The Astro Space Center as a branch of Lebedev Institute of Physics has a number of commitments for space experiments in the areas of upper atmospheric, solar, and astronomical research aboard Radioastron , Kvant and other space projects. Division scientists are involved in major research thrusts that include interferometric observations, studies of the solar atmosphere by using spectrographic techniques, and studies of astronomical ranging from the ultraviolet through cosmic rays. The division maintains facilities to design, construct, assemble, and calibrate space experiments.
Astronomical Data Analysis Center ( NAOJ/ADAC )

Astronomical Data Center ( ADC )
The Astronomical Data Center (ADC), at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland, is a cooperative effort between the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC)/ World Data Center A for Rockets and Satellites (WDC-A-R&S) and its parent organization, the Space Science Data Operations Office . Currently, the ADC archives hold more than 670 catalogs of astrometry, photometry, spectroscopy, radio, and other miscellaneous data for stellar and nonstellar objects. The data were acquired through exchanges with the Centre de Donn'ees Astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS) , other astronomical data centers throughout the world, and by direct contributions from the international astronomical community.
Astrophysics Data Facility ( ADF )
The Astrophysics Data Facility (ADF), located at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), is responsible for designing, developing, and operating data systems that support the processing, management, archiving and distribution of NASA mission data. The ADF serves three broadly-defined astrophysics disciplines: high-energy astrophysics, UV/optical astrophysics, and infrared/submillimeter/radio astrophysics. The ADF collaborates with the GSFC Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics (LHEA) and the Laboratory for Astronomy and Solar Physics (LASP) in managing data for specific missions. The ADF staff also support the astrophysics community's access to multi-mission and multi-spectral data archives in the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC).

Backgrounds Data Center ( BDC )
The Backgrounds Data Center (BDC) is part of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO). The BDC was established to assist the ballistic and theater missile defense community with its requirements for information to evaluate the Strategic Defense System feasibility, development, and implementation. The BDC is located at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C., and is part of the Space Science Division. Specifically, the BDC archives, catalogs, and distributes BMDO experiment program data relating to Earth, atmospheric, and celestial background scenes. Emphasis is placed on the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared regions of the spectrum.

BeppoSAX Mission ( SAX )
The X-ray astronomy satellite BeppoSAX (Satellite per Astronomia X "Beppo" in honor of Giuseppe Occhialini) is a project of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) with participation of the Netherlands Agency for Aerospace Programs (NIVR).
In the framework of past and future X-ray missions BeppoSAX stands out for its wide spectral coverage, ranging from 0.1 to over 200 keV. The sensitivity of the scientific payload allows the detailed study over the entire energy band of sources as weak as about 1/20 of 3C273. This opens new perspectives in the study of broad band X-ray spectra and variability of cosmic sources.

Canadian Astronomy Data Centre ( CADC )
The CADC was established in 1986 as one of three world-wide distribution centres for data from the Hubble Space Telescope and is part of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, B.C. The CADC mandate has recently expanded and we are now archiving data from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope located on the Big Island of Hawaii. CADC has hosted ADASS'93 (Oct 13-15, 1993).
Cassini Mission to Saturn
Saturn and Titan will be the destination for the Cassini mission, a project under joint development by NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The U.S. portion of the mission is managed for NASA by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
CDS Service for Astronomical Catalogues ( Astronomer's Bazaar )
This on-line service, provided by the CDS, Strasbourg, gives access to several thousand astronomical data catalogues and tables. The VizieR catalog browser provides additional search functionalities for a large fraction of these catalogues.

CEA Guest Scientist Program
Users of the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) satellite know that the size and complexity of the data sets can render reduction and analysis difficult. The Guest Scientist (GS) program has been implemented to help alleviate many computer-resource problems, and to provide researchers with training in the use of EUVE data. This program is being offered free of charge by the Center for EUV Astrophysics (CEA) in order to promote research using EUVE data.

Center for Earth and Planetary Studies ( CEPS / RPIF )
Center for Earth and Planetary Studies and its Regional Planetary Image Facility (RPIF) located at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution are pleased to announce the availability of its WWW server. The purpose of this NASA supported RPIF is to act as a reference library providing planetary science researchers with access to the extensive collection of image data from planetary missions. Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams ( CBAT )
The Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (CBAT) operates at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, under the auspices of Commission 6 of the International Astronomical Union and under the direction of Dr. Brian G. Marsden. The CBAT is responsible for the dissemination of information on transient astronomical events, via the IAU Circulars (IAUCs), a series of postcard-sized announcements issued at irregular intervals. The IAUCs are also available in electronic form.

Centre de Données Astronomiques de Strasbourg ( CDS )
The CDS is a data center dedicated to the collection and worldwide distribution of astronomical data. It is located at the Observatoire Astronomique de Strasbourg, France. The CDS hosts the SIMBAD astronomical database, the world reference database for the identification of astronomical objects. The CDS site includes access to SIMBAD on the Web, various bibliographic services and mirror sites, the AstroWeb pages and the Star*s Family of directories, the TOPBase of the Opacity project, etc.
It also includes the famous Astronomer's Bazaar , a unique feature allowing to select astronomical catalogues by keyword or author's name, among the library of several thousands catalogues and tables available on line, and to actually retrieve the corresponding files. This is completed by the VizieR service for querying catalogues and tables.
Centre de donnees planetaires ( IAS, Orsay )
Web site of the planetary science group of Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale (Orsay, France), mostly devoted to:
- Early solar system and primordial matter,
- Planetary surfaces, atmospheres and magnetospheres,

CLEMENTINE images
The CLEMENTINE Spacecraft, was launched on 25 January 1994, and performed in 71 days the first multi-spectral systematic mapping of the moon. Clementine produced 1,800,000 images that represents approximately a volume of 55 Go of data. These data are distributed by the PDS on 90 CD-ROMS, and are also available on line (stored on 55 Go drives) thanks to this server provided by CNES.

Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Data Archive ( DMSP )
DMSP is a two satellite constellation of near-polar orbiting, sun-synchronous satellites monitoring meteorological, oceanographic and solar-terrestrial physics environments. NGDC maintains an archive of all data recorded on DMSP satellites as relayed to NGDC by Air Force Global Weather Central. Data from March 1992 to March 1994, are considered to be experimental. After March 1994, the system should be fully operational.
DIRA2-WWW
Dira2-WWW provides access to the Astronet DIRA2 database that holds more than 270 astronomical catalogues. The user can select catalogue data an receive output in text or FITS-table format. The Dira2 sofware, that can be used to manage personal database and display data, is available for more platforms. A telnet session (user & password = dira2) provides access to full dira2 functionality including the mixed use of public and private data. The server is located in Italy at CNR Istituto di Radioastronomia.
Einstein Data Archive ( SAO, Cambridge, MA )
The Einstein Observatory was a satellite based imaging X-ray telescope in operation from November 1978 to April 1981. The focal plane detectors included two Imaging Proportional Counters (IPC), three High Resolution Imagers, an Objective Grating Spectrometer (OGS), a Focal Plane Crystal Spectrometer (FPCS) and a Solid State Spectrometer (SSS). The most commonly used instrument was the IPC, which made nearly 4000 observations of astronomical sources. The European Space Agency's X-ray Observatory, EXOSAT, was operational from May 1983 to April 1986. During that time, EXOSAT made 1780 observations of a wide variety of objects, including active galactic nuclei, stellar coronae, cataclysmic variables, white dwarfs, X-ray binaries, clusters of galaxies, and supernova remnants.

IRAS Data Products
The Infrared Astronomical Satellite surveyed almost the entire sky in four infrared bands and obtained deeper maps and low-resolution spectra of thousands of infrared sources. All of the IRAS data products released by IPAC, including catalogs and images, are accessible through this interface, provided by the Astrophysics Data Facility at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The interface also includes links to many related Astronomical Data Center catalogs.
IUE Data Analysis Center ( IUEDAC )
The International Ultraviolet Explorer Regional Data Analysis Facilities (RDAF) were established in 1982 to assist users in the interpretation and analysis of IUE data. Programs written using the Interactive Data Language (IDL) have allowed users to reduce and analyze IUE spectral data, display images, perform various database searches and convert IUE data sets into various formats such as FITS, ASCII text, etc. In 1993, the Colorado RDAF was closed, and the RDAF at GSFC was renamed the IUE Data Analysis Center (IUEDAC).

La Palma Data Archive
Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics ( LHEA )
The Laboratory was reorganized in October 1995 into two science and two technical support branches. The science branches are the "X-ray Astrophysics Branch" and the "Gamma Ray and Cosmic Ray Astrophysics Branch". The latter contains several subgroups including low and high energy cosmic rays, low and high energy gamma-rays, and a theoretical group. In addition to the four branches there is an "Office for Guest Investigator Programs" with overall responsibility for the utilization by the astrophysics community of several high energy astrophysics observatories that the laboratory administers ( ROSAT, ASCA, CGRO and XTE).

Midcourse Space Experiment ( MSX )
BMDO's Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX)- The MSX observatory is a Ballistic Missile Defense Organization project which offers major benefits for both the defense and civilian sectors. With a solid heritage in the successful Delta series, MSX represents the first system demonstration of technology in space to identify and track ballistic missiles during their midcourse flight phase. The spacecraft features an advanced multispectral image capability to gather data on test targets and space background phenomena. MSX will aid future spacecraft design by monitoring on-orbit contamination of optical instruments. In addition, its investigation of the composition and dynamics of Earth's atmosphere promises increased understanding of the environment. The Minor Planet Center is a service of Commission 20 of the International Astronomical Union and operates at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory under the direction of Dr. Brian Marsden. The Minor Planet Center is responible for the collection and dissemination of astrometric observations and orbits for minor planets and comets.

The GSFC Space Science Data Operations Office (SSDOO), though its various branches (the Astrophysics Data Facility, the Space Physics Data Facility, and the National Space Science Data Center) offers access to a wide selection of Space Science Data which are contained in the NASA Data Archive and Distribution Service (NDADS). Currently, the NDADS near-line archive contains about 1.5 Terrabytes of Astrophysics, Space Physics and Solar Physics Data from 32 individual 'projects'.

The primary responsibility of the NSSDC is to further the use of NASA spaceflight mission data. The purpose of the NCSA Astronomy Digital Image Library is to collect fully processed astronomical images in FITS format format and make them available to the research community and the general public via the World Wide Web. The collection will contain images from research observatories all over the world and taken at all wavebands.

North Carolina State University - Mars Mission Research Center
Co-located at North Carolina State University in Raleigh (NCSU) and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro (A&T), the Mars Mission Research Center (M2RC) is one of eight University Space Engineering Centers established by NASA in 1988. The goal of the Center is to focus on research and educational technologies necessary for planetary exploration, especially transportation to and from Mars.

OAO-3 (Copernicus) Archive
The third Orbiting Astronomical Observatory was launched by NASA from Cape Kennedy by an Atlas-Centaur Rocket on August 21, 1972. The satellite, named Copernicus, was designed to seek answers to some of the fundamental questions concerning stars and interstellar matter. The principal viewing device was a 32-inch (0.8m) diameter reflecting telescope and ultraviolet spectrometer system. The instrument was designed, built, and operated by the Princeton University Observatory, with Professor Lyman Spitzer, Jr. as Principal investigator. Copernicus was operated until February 1981

PDS Imaging Node's Planetary Image Atlas ( PDSIMG Atlas )
The Atlas is designed to be a single interface through which you can search for, display, and download full resolution data for all planetary missions. It will eventually replace individual existing browsers. Until that time, links to the individual browsers are provided from this central location. Current missions included in the Atlas are: Magellan, Clementine, Viking, Mars Pathfinder, and Galileo.
PDS Planetary Rings Node
The Planetary Rings Node is responsible for restoring, archiving and publishing datasets describing planetary ring systems. This includes all the relevant datasets aquired from previous and future spacecraft, as well as from Earth-based observatories. In order to support research with these datasets, the node also provides expert assistance, catalog information to help scientists pinpoint the most relevant data, and a suite of software tools to simplify data manipulation.
Planetary Data System Imaging Node ( PDSIMG )
The Imaging Node of the Planetary Data System is the curator of NASA's primary digital image collections from past, present, and future planetary missions. The node provides to the NASA planetary science community the digital image archives, necessary ancillary datasets, software tools, and technical expertise necessary to fully utilize the vast collection of digital planetary imagery.
Ritter Astrophysical Research Center
The Ritter Astrophysical Research Center is associated with the Department of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Toledo. The Center includes faculty and graduate students working in the fields of stellar, interstellar, planetary, and extragalactic astrophysics. The Center's facilities include a 1m reflector equipped with two fiber-fed spectragraphs, one a low/medium resolution and one a high resolution echelle spectragraph and time on the departmental accelerator for investigation of astrophysically interesting atomic parameters.

Space Telescope - European Coordinating Facility ( ST-ECF )
The ST-ECF was established in 1984 jointly by the European Space Agency and the European Southern Observatory and is located at the ESO headquarters at Garching near Munich. The ST-ECF supports the European astromical community in exploiting the research opportunities provided by the earth-orbiting Hubble Space Telescope. The ST-ECF provides detailed technical information about the HST and its science instruments, supports European astronomers in the preparation of HST observing proposals, coordinates the development of computer software tuned to the specific data analysis needs of HST users, operates and maintains an archive of all the scientific data collected by HST, and acts as a European centre for associated meetings and workshops. In all of these duties the ST-ECF staff maintains close contacts with the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, which is charged with the scientific operation of the HST observatory.

Synthetic Spectra of B Main-Sequence Stars from 3000 - 10000
This Web page provides a simple interactive tool for line identification in B stars along the main sequence. The calculation makes use of the atomic line list of Kurucz & Bell (1995). For one of six possible effective temperatures between 10000 and 35000 K and an arbitrary wavelength range between 3000 and 10000 Å a normalized synthetic spectrum is displayed on-line. The output consists of a gif image (~10 kB) or a gzipped postscript file (~30 kB).

AMASE is an online astrophysics catalog developed using object-oriented database (OODB) technology to help researchers locate multi-mission data in the NASA archives.
The European Pulsar Network Data Archive ( EPN data archive )
The European Pulsar Network is maintaining an archive of published data: the database consists largely of pulse profiles but may in the future contain pulse time-of-arrival measurements.
The Extrasolar Planets Encyclopedia
This resource, maintained by Jean Schneider (Observatoire de Paris), provides updated information about the search for extrasolar planets.
It includes a Catalog of Extrasolar Planets and a list of meetings.
The NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database ( NED )
Research tool providing access to a broad range of published extragalactic data. NED is continuously being updated and augmented. It is the systematic merger of major catalogs of extragalactic objects covering all wavelengths, and of object lists appearing in the refereed literature.
NED contains about 800,000 objects, along with names, redshifts, positions, bibliographic references, photometric measurements, and notes. The Web interface of NED started recently serving images of objects at various wavelengths.
The Opacity Project: TOPbase at CDS ( TOPbase )
TOPbase is a read-only database system specially designed for general use of the atomic data dervived by the Opacity Project. It contains energy levels, f-values and photoionization cross sections for astrophysically abundant elements.
U.S. Naval Observatory ( USNO )
The U.S. Naval Observatory performs an essential scientific role for the United States, the Navy, and the Department of Defense. Its mission includes determining the positions and motions of the Earth, Sun, Moon, planets, stars and other celestial objects, providing astronomical data; determining precise time; measuring the Earth's rotation; and maintaining the Master Clock for the United States.
UKIRT Data Archive ( ROE )
The UKIRT data archive contains all the astronomical images and spectra obtained by the UK Infrared Telescope on Mauna Kea since January 1992. It is accessed by a sophisticated WWW search form.
Universal Research Archive of Networked Information in Astronomy ( URANIA )
Named for the muse of astronomy, the Urania resource is composed of electronic astronomical scholarly journals, bibliographic information, electronic archives of original data, electronic copies of the historical scholarly literature for the last twenty years and a special reference system archive organized by object in the sky. The separate resources which make up Urania comprise a functioning distributed digital library of astronomical information which provides a power and utility heretofore unavailable to the researcher.

Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) observations archive ( NFRA, Dwingeloo )
A query form lets you search the catalogue of all observations done with the WSRT since the beginning of its operations in 1970. Searches are possible by equatorial or galactic coordinates, by source name and some other parameters. Requests for data from the archive may be submitted after selection.
X-Ray WWW Server ( at Uppsala Universitet )
The Server makes available bibliographies and databases related to x-ray spectroscopic physics. In particular, the Henke database of atomic scattering factors can be downloaded. Also, this is the site for the Atomic and Molecular Core- Edge Excitation Database and Bibliography, compiled originally by A.P. Hitchcock, and prepared by Hitchcock and Mancini for electronic distribution (COREXDB). A simple bibliographic search mechanism has been implemented for the COREX bibliography. A visualization mechanism is currently being developed to allow Web Browsers to preview datafiles as in-line GIFs before choosing to download.
