Echelle Reduction Manual for IRAF Users ( Lick Obs. Tech. Report #74 )
The manual describes the general IRAF packages, tasks, and parameters necessary to calibrating, extracting, and viewing data taken with echelle spectrographs. It is intended as a beginner's guide to IRAF echelle data reduction. Many task and task parameters are explained in detail and an example reduction from start to finish is presented. Specific concerns and settings for the Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph are addressed, but these apply to echelle spectrographs in general. Optimal extractions and scattered light removal techniques are addressed.
Echelle Scattered Light Algorithm ( HAMSCATT )
HAMSCATT is a FORTRAN 77 module that interoperates with IRAF via the IMFORT library. It is publicly available. The distributed is a compressed tar file that contains the HAMSCATT software described in Churchill and Allen (PASP, 107, 193).

Iowa Robotic Observatory
A Consortium consisting of faculty from the Regents Universities of the State of Iowa (University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and University of Northern Iowa) have begun construction of a fully robotic Observatory for undergraduate teaching and research in astronomy and related fields. The Iowa Robotic Observatory (IRO) will consist of a fully computerized telescope and enclosure, a large format imaging CCD camera and photometric filters.

Robotic Optical Transient Search Experiment ( ROTSE )
ROTSE is an experimental program to search for astrophysical optical transients on time scales of a fraction of a second to a few hours. This is an area of astronomical science that has been relatively unexplored until now. The primary incentive for this research is to find the optical counterparts of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Two sets of instruments are now under construction: ROTSE-I, a 4-fold camera array using telephoto lenses to cover a 16 degree by 16 degree field of view and ROTSE-II, a pair of 0.45 meter aperture telescopes to cover a 2 degree by 2 degree field of view. The expected sensitivities of these two systems is expected to be m_v ~ 15 and 18 respectively.

The Design Engineering Technology Digest

The monthly magazine features exclusive reports of innovations developed by NASA and its industry partners/contractors that can be applied to develop new/improved products and solve engineering or manufacturing problems. Authored by the engineers or scientists who did the work, the briefs span a wide array of fields, including electronics, physical sciences, materials, computer software, mechanics, machinery/automation, manufacturing/fabrication, mathematics/information sciences, and life sciences.

Most briefs offer a Technical Support Package, which explains the technology in greater detail and provides contact points for questions or licensing discussions.

NASA Tech Briefs also contains feature articles on successful NASA spinoffs, profiles of NASA tech transfer resources, news briefs, and application stories. Regular columns describe new patents, industry products, software, and literature.

The Extrasolar Planets Encyclopedia
This resource, maintained by Jean Schneider (Observatoire de Paris), provides updated information about the search for extrasolar planets.
It includes a Catalog of Extrasolar Planets and a list of meetings.

The NGC/IC Project
The NGC/IC Project is an attempt to correctly identify all of the original NGC and IC objects, starting with the original discoverer 's notes and working forward in time to encompass the work of contemporary astronomers, both professional and amateur, such that the identity of each of the NGC and IC objects is known with as much certainty as we can reasonably bring to it from the existing historical record. Contains a lot of historical NGC/IC data, including the original NGC and IC's. Also contains an on-line NGC/IC public access database as well as an NGC/IC observing list generator.
The Opacity Project: TOPbase at CDS ( TOPbase )
TOPbase is a read-only database system specially designed for general use of the atomic data dervived by the Opacity Project. It contains energy levels, f-values and photoionization cross sections for astrophysically abundant elements.

VSNET now has three addresses for delivering different content of mails. Z39.50 resources - a pointer page
a reference point for resources related to the Information Retrieval Service and Protocol standard, ANSI/NISO Z39.50. This standard was first successfully balloted in 1988; several companies implemented this standard or variants of this; but it did not develop large scale acceptance. A noteworthy implementation based on this standard is WAIS (Wide Area Information Services). Also see the Profiles section for more info on present development of WAIS within Z39.50.
